Attainment source: individual or role
Any rule that measures attainment — one with a threshold or a multiplier — has to measure it against something. That choice is the Attainment source.

Individual
The ordinary case. Each rep is measured on their own production against their own quota.
Needs: the role must own a quota, and the rep must have a target in it. A rep with no quota for the period cannot be measured, so any rule using attainment pays nothing meaningful. → Set up quotas
If the role owns no quota of its own you will see: "This role owns no quota of its own to measure. Role is the only source available on this plan."
Role
The whole role's production against the committed role target. This is how team bonuses and manager overrides on team performance work.
"Measured against the role target; paid to the role's manager."
Two prerequisites, and Lokom names them when they are missing:

Include the manager's own deals
A checkbox: "Include the manager's own deals in the role total."
"Off by default. Player-coaches keep their individual component separate unless this is on."
Leave it off unless you mean it. A player-coach who sells and manages normally draws their own commission on their own deals and a role-attainment payout on the team's — counting their deals twice inflates the second one.
Where the role target comes from
Role attainment divides by the committed role target, not by the sum of members' quotas today. A target is frozen at save time, and later member-quota changes do not move it.
If no target was committed, the rule is skipped and the statement says so: "No role target was committed for the measured role this period, so the team bonus was not computed."
A target of zero records attainment as 0% and applies no accelerator. → Role targets
A measurement gap worth knowing
Role actuals follow the period's own date field. The Quota → Attainment page measures on close date. The two can therefore cover slightly different deals for the same period — expected behaviour, and worth knowing before you treat a small difference as a bug.
